I just read this great article and interview of Franesca Tolot, makeup artist to celebrities such as Madonna, Gwen Stefani and Beyonce. I have such admiration for makeup artists who have a ability to give a person a "look" using what they already have and enhancing it in a different way for each event they go to. The artist in me would love to see her at work not only doing application but planning out each "style/look" for each event and coordinating it with an outfit and desired effect. It's nothing short of magic in my opinion.
How long have you been a makeup artist? I am been in the industry for over two decades. I started by career in Milan working freelance for major fashion magazine such as Italian Vogue and working closely with fashion designers for runway shows. Eventually I moved to the United States where my majority of clients were Hollywood celebrities. Here is my favorite part: What was your big break? My biggest break was coming to America, this gave me the opportunity to work in the Hollywood scene but also maintaining my passion of editorial work thanks to my longstanding relationship with the iconic photographer Herb Ritz. During this time, I started working closely with Madonna on a wide range of great projects from editorial covers, multiple videos, and creating the look for the movie Dick Tracy. Who doesn't love Madonna? She is an icon of fashion. Any stylist or makeup artist who has worked with Madonna is a fashion god in my mind. I also always love learning about how people get into their dream jobs. I love doing lashes and I could not be happier about doing what I love for a living.
